Was Yeshua starting a new religion or fulfilling Israel's story?

Part of a series: questions that make more sense when the Tanakh and the New Testament are read together.

Matthew 5:17 has Yeshua's own claim: “I have not come to abolish… but to fulfill.” Luke 24 has him walking two disciples through “Moses and all the Prophets,” showing how everything written about him had to be fulfilled (Luke 24:44–47).

Does the record support “new religion,” or does it only support “fulfilled story”? Bring your sources.
